Lavender Love (All About Lavender)

  Lavender is one of my favorites and it is very versatile and easy to use. It can be used for so many things so I wanted to share it with you first! I love it so much that I planted some outside near my front porch. It's still a young plant since I planted it this year.

       Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) has a sweet, floral aroma that is soothing and refreshing. Lavender’s aroma is great for relaxing and winding down before bedtime; add to bath or diffuse to create a calming and comforting environment. Lavender essential oil may complement your favorite shampoos, lotions and skin care products. Because it is the most versatile of all essential oils, no home should be without it.

 How I use Lavender in my home

* On my Wool Dryer Balls or in my laundry when washing bed items

* A little bit on the blanket or stuffed animal that my children sleep with and on my pillows

* In my water that I clean my floors with. I use a microfiber mop that only requires water.

* To massage the bottom of my little ones and husband's feet before bed after a rough day. Just add coconut oil

* In the bath water

* If you have been out in the sun too long you can use it to soothe your skin. I just put it in a spray bottle. I like to call it my "After Sun Spray" If I touch something that is too hot, I just apply the oil directly to the skin from the bottle.

* Diffuse it at bedtime to promote relaxation

             There are many uses for Lavender and I just can't name them all.  It was used for mummification and perfume by Egyptians and others 2,500 years ago.  It was also used by the Greeks and Romans. They took lavender scented baths and the word Lavender derives from the Latin word "Lavo" which means "to wash". Lavender is even mentioned in the bible. It was called nard or spikenard in the bible. It is mentioned in

   John 12:3

   Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.

   Song of Solomon 4:13-15.

    nard and saffron, calamus and cinnamon, with every kind of incense tree, with myrrh and aloes and all the finest spices.

          Lavender is so calming and balancing.  Bedtime at our house used to be chaotic.  My youngest has a hard time self soothing and this has always been an issue for her.  We did co sleeping and for several years we tried to move her into her own room but she always migrated back into ours.  To get alone time with my husband we would allow her to sleep in the office and watch a movie but we felt it was time to move her into her own bed for good.  I started using Lavender on her favorite blanket that she snuggles with to calm her and relax her at bedtime. It has helped so much and I am proud to report that she sleeps in her own room and does not migrate back into ours.
